Bleaching Wax
Our bleaching waxes have been regarded as classic products for treating pigmentation disorders for over 80 years. With our tried and trusted active ingredient “Ephelidin” (diacetyl boldine) derived from the natural ingredient of the bark of the Chilean boldo tree, our bleaching waxes gently prevent the synthesis of the dark skin pigment, melanin and lighten pigmentation spots in a gentle and effective way.
DRULA® BLEACHING WAXES intervene in the synthesis route of the melanin at an early stage, thereby slowing the melanin synthesis. The active ingredient prevents the activation of the central enzyme for melanin formation, tyrosinase, thereby contributing effectively to lightening of the skin.

Bleaching Wax:
Our DRULA® BLEACHING WAX is ideally suited to early treatment of light pigmentation disorders on the face and neckline. It is used:
- for pigmentation disorders such as freckles, light age spots or mild pregnancy marks (chloasmata) where it has a lightening effect
- mild skin impurities

Contains the root extract of the mulberry tree, which is well-known for its lightening effect. This plant has not only been used for a long time in traditional Chinese medicine, but also in Japan, where the cosmetic effects of the mulberry tree were discovered by accident when the plant was used as feed for silkworms and it was noticed that workers who were regularly in contact with this plant had particularly few signs of aging such as age spots, on their hands. Alongside skin-lightening properties, the mulberry tree extract is also used for its anti-aging properties and is therefore excellently suited to our DRULA® ANTI-AGING CREAM.

Application areas
If the production of melanin is impaired and the pigment is not distributed equally in the skin, visible pigmentation disorders (hyper- or hypopigmentation) are created which many people find aesthetically unpleasing. The formation of the skin pigment melanin takes place in the upper skin layers (epidermis) in specialised cells known as melanocytes. The dark spots on the skin are created through an over-production of melanin in the melanocytes or an overly large number of melanocytes in certain places.
There can be various causes for a pigmentation disorder, such as genetic disposition, or hormonal changes such as during pregnancy or owing to medication. The job of melanin is to protect the deeper skin layers from the damaging effects of the sun’s UV rays; as melanocytes react to the UV rays by producing melanin, these can influence the development of pigmentation disorders.
From the age of around 50, these brownish spots can be found on regions which are particularly strongly exposed to the sun such as the back of the hands, neckline, shoulders, arms, and face. In terms of colour, they vary between light brown and dark brown. The lighter versions are very similar to freckles. An increased number of melanocytes can often be observed here. Exposure to UV radiation over many years is one of the causes of so-called age spots. You should always keep an eye on age spots as well as “presumed” age spots because early forms of melanoma (malignant melanoma) can often look confusingly similar and these must be treated at an early stage. Other names for age spots are solar lentigo, birthmarks or liver spots.
Chloasmata (derived from the Greek word chloazin = to be green; melasma is derived from the Greek word melas = black; pregnancy spots), are pigmented skin areas, in the face, on the neckline or on the arms. This kind of pigmentation disorder is particularly common in women with dark hair. Chloasmata often occur in connection with hormonal changes such as during pregnancy (“mask of pregnancy”) or taking medications containing hormones such as the contraceptive pill. UV radiation also increases the likelihood of chloasmata developing.
Freckles (ephelides) are often caused by genetic disposition and frequently occur during childhood. The number of melanocytes is higher in the case of freckles, and the melanin production is thereby higher than average. The colouring of the freckles is intensified by UV radiation, which is why they tend to appear during the summer. People with fair skin are particularly prone to freckles.
This form of pigmentation typically occurs after the skin has become inflamed through acne or an injury to the skin.
Our brand DRULA
The pharmacist and chemist Dr Otto Druckrey developed the idea for DRULA® (DRUckrey LAboratorium = DRULA) in Quedlinburg, Saxony-Anhalt, in the year 1925 and registered the trademark as a patent.
The first product of the cosmetics line was created in 1928: the DRULA Bleaching Wax (known today as the DRULA CLASSIC Bleaching Wax) for pigment disorders such as freckles and acne.
From 1958 onwards, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong-Kong became the first export markets and DRULA® BLEACHING WAX rapidly became an export hit as a product for pigmentation spots, acne, and blemished skin.
DRULA® BLEACHING WAX became well-known international from 1960 onwards and further export markets (countries in West Africa, Central and South America, USA, Japan, and the Gulf States) were added.
The products have undergone continual development over the past 30 years and new product lines have been added. Renowned beauty shows and awards have given the cosmetics line further international recognition.
From our own experience and the positive feedback of our clients, we believe in the high effectiveness of the DRULA® products. Just like Dr. O. Druckrey, we give our very best each day to ensure the future of our products.
